Nikki wasn’t popular with the judges, but managed to stay afloat long enough to make it to place three by staying popular to her core audience. After several failed efforts with record and management companies, her long-awaited album is scheduled to be released by Astral Records in 2006. Music

A favorite in the second season, whose unfortunate claim to fame was a dead-on imitation of Whitney Houston. Mikalah, one of the show’s youngest singers, had a powerful voice, but one that she frequently lost control of. She would either bowl the judges over, or utterly disappoint them – usually the latter. Year Two, removed due to an old, undisclosed arrest record. Corey Clark is the Monica Lewinsky of American Idol – well, sort of. We’re not really sure if any of the romance claims between him and Paula were true (hey, I think we know how she can drool), but if they were – it’s pretty safe to say that in the least, this young man grossly exaggerated. But, yeah – he probably lied as well. Like Rasmusen of the same year, he had the hip-hop look, and even some of the moves, and had the “it” factor (the all important charismatic stage presence), but his voice was often weak and immature. It’s hard to say, but he might not have lasted much longer anyway.

Ever the diplomat, he’s refused to say why, but many have speculated that it’s due to the draconian contracts that the show’s producers allegedly make the finalists. He knew he might win, the story goes, and he knew he didn’t want that contract. Paula Abdul has recently said she thought he would have won. After several months, Mario was signed to a contract, with none other than J Records. Who knows what the future will hold . . . he might have won Year Four, and depending on the record that J Records promises they’ll release in ’06, he may not have needed to.

Her removal created a storm of protest (she had earlier been placed in the bottom three with the eventual winner, Fantasia Barrino) over racist voting by the viewing public, although vote-splitting between the extraordinary quality and quantity of R&B singers that year may have also been a factor (if it was all racism, would Fantasia had won?).
Jennifer is the biggest wildcard among all former Idol contestants, though, in that she was cast in the film production of Dreamgirls in the role of Effie White, beating Fantasia who was also seeking the role. If Dreamgirls does to Jennifer what it did for Jennifer Holiday, or what Selena did for Jennifer Lopez . . . she may have Kelly Clarkson peeing in her panties! Maybe there’ll be a good “Three Jennifer Omen” there!

Maroulis, a former TV bit player, off-Broadway actor, and small-time band member, may not only transcend his bottom-feeding careers in the world of American Celebrity, but could be one of the most famous former contestants of all-time – if his new TV deal goes through. Kelsey Grammar’s production company, Grammnet, has sold the rights to a potential TV series starring Maroulis, and based on his family growing up, to ABC television.
